Cyberpunk 2077 FPS Calculator: Ray Tracing Overdrive, DLSS 4 & Frame Generation

Cyberpunk 2077 with RT Overdrive is the most demanding consumer workload in PC gaming — full path tracing over Night City. This preset locks the game’s demand profile and shows exactly what native raster, Ray Tracing Ultra, DLSS 4 and Frame Generation each buy (and cost) on your hardware.

This page covers cyberpunk 2077 fps calculator scenarios — including cyberpunk 2077 ray tracing overdrive fps, cyberpunk path tracing requirements — using the same estimation engine as the complete hardware FPS estimator. Prefer the wide view? Browse every tool in game-specific fps calculators.

  • Base framerate is under ~45 FPS — frame generation engages at reduced benefit, because input latency and 1% lows degrade quickly below this line.

RT Overdrive is modeled with the engine’s heaviest ray-tracing multiplier (3.4×). Frame Generation uses the DLSS 3/4 FG multiplier with reduced benefit under a 45 FPS base.

Cyberpunk 2077 FPS Calculator: The Engineering Detail

Ray Tracing Overdrive: What Path Tracing Actually Does to a Frame

RT Overdrive replaces Cyberpunk’s hybrid lighting with full path tracing — every pixel’s light is traced through the scene with sampled bounces, denoised per frame. It’s a 3.4× multiplier over native Ultra in our model, which is why even an RTX 5090 needs upscaling to make it fluid at 4K.

    • BVH traversal cost scales with resolution — path tracing at 4K is ~2.7× the 1080p workload, before denoising.
    • Denoiser quality depends on sample count, which scales with frame budget: low FPS compounds into blur.
    • RT: Overdrive also raises VRAM pressure by 2–3GB — 8GB cards swap residency and stutter.
    • RT Ultra (the tier below Overdrive) keeps hybrid RT reflections/GI at a 2.4× multiplier — often the sweet spot.

Pro tip: if your RT Ultra native average lands under ~45 FPS, add DLSS Quality before touching Frame Generation — FG multiplies a stuttery base into a stuttery slideshow.

DLSS 4 and FSR 3.1: The Only Way Most GPUs See Night City Lit Properly

Upscaling reconstructs a higher-resolution image from fewer samples: Quality renders at 67% linear resolution, Performance at 50%. In pure shader terms that should be a ~2.2× gain at Quality; reconstruction overhead brings the real-world multiplier to ~1.4–2.05× across modes — exactly what our engine applies.

    • Transformer-model DLSS 4 holds detail notably better than CNN DLSS at Performance mode — thin neons and grilles survive reconstruction.
    • FSR 3.1 on RDNA cards trails DLSS by a small image-quality margin at Performance but the FPS math is identical.
    • Frame Generation stacks a further 1.65–1.9×, but adds ~one frame of latency and softens 1% lows — fine for cruising Night City, wrong for combat-heavy runs.
    • Below a ~45 FPS base, FG benefit halves in our model — the generated frames inherit the base frame’s pacing problems.

Pro tip: pair RT Ultra (not Overdrive) with DLSS Quality and FG for the best fidelity-per-millisecond on a 5070 Ti-class card — Overdrive’s extra cost is only worth it on x90-class silicon.

    VRAM: The Hidden Cyberpunk Bottleneck

Cyberpunk at 1440p Ultra consumes 9–10GB; at 4K Ultra or RT Overdrive it pushes 12–14GB. Cards that run out of VRAM don’t just lose FPS — they lose frame-time consistency as textures stream over PCIe, which is why our engine penalizes under-buffered cards at high pixel counts.

    • 8GB cards: playable at 1080p High native; avoid Ultra textures and any RT at 1440p+.
    • 12GB is the practical RT floor at 1440p — 16GB removes the caveat entirely.
    • RT Overdrive’s extra buffers push 4K demand near 16GB; the 5080’s 16GB is exactly sized for it.
    • Ray Reconstruction (the path-tracing denoiser) adds its own residency — expect +1GB vs RT Ultra.

Pro tip: watch our VRAM warning line when you raise resolution or presets — it appears before the FPS number collapses, because residency thrash shows in 1% lows first.

Cyberpunk 2077 FPS Calculator — FAQs

Can my PC run Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing Overdrive?

Comfortably only on x90-class cards (4090/5090) or 5080/9070 XT with DLSS/FSR Performance. A 5070 Ti manages 1440p Overdrive with DLSS Quality plus Frame Generation around 60–75 FPS. Below that, RT Ultra with upscaling delivers 90% of the look at half the cost.

How much FPS does DLSS add in Cyberpunk 2077?

Roughly 1.42× at Quality, 1.72× at Balanced and 2.05× at Performance in our engine — e.g., a 5070 Ti goes from ~40 FPS RT Ultra native to ~82 FPS with DLSS Quality. Frame Generation then adds up to another 1.8× on RTX 40/50 cards.

Is Frame Generation worth it in Cyberpunk?

For exploration and driving, yes — it turns a 50 FPS base into ~90 with minimal downside. For combat-dense runs, the added latency and softened 1% lows are noticeable; our model halves FG’s benefit under a 45 FPS base to reflect that.

Why is my Cyberpunk FPS lower with RT on an 8GB card?

Two compounding reasons: RT Ultra/Overdrive adds 2–3GB of buffer pressure on top of Ultra textures, and once VRAM overflows, textures stream across PCIe — tanking 1% lows before averages. Drop texture quality to High and RT to the tier below, or move to 1440p upscaling.

What is a good FPS for Cyberpunk 2077?

60 FPS average with 1% lows above 45 is the single-player sweet spot; 100–120 with FG feels exceptional in this game because its pacing is cinematic rather than twitch. There’s no competitive reason to chase 240 — spend that headroom on path tracing instead.
